10 Interview Mistakes to Avoid

interview-tips

1. Unprepared

Going into an interview unprepared is a common interview blunder. Visit the company's website to learn as much as you can about it before going on an interview. You want to learn everything you can about the firm and the role. Review the content ahead of time to ensure that it is fresh in your mind. Never be unsure of what a firm stands for or how it operates if you want to work there.

2. Lack of Interest

When you show a lack of interest, you don't make eye contact, sit up straight, and respond slowly to questions. It doesn't seem appropriate to be unable to convey why you are interested in the job/company. You won't be able to persuade someone to give you the job if you don't want it. Exhibiting passion demonstrates that you are enthusiastic about the job and the organization.

3. Inappropriate Attire

One of the most typical interview blunders is dressing inappropriately. When attending an interview, always present yourself as professional and well-dressed. Inappropriate dress, such as clothing that is too small, too tight, or too huge, should be avoided. When someone looks at you, the first thing they notice is your appearance. Believe me when I say that the interviewer notices how you arrive for the interview. Keep it up. Keep your perfume, cologne, and cosmetics to a bare minimum.

4. Don't Bring Anything to Drink

If necessary, have a drink before the interview. Drinking at an interview is quite unprofessional. Drinks might be a good way to pass the time. Your first goal should be to leave a positive and enduring impression. Concentrate on the questions that are being asked and maintain good eye contact. A spilled drink is the last thing you want to happen.

5. Lack of Resume Knowledge

Provide precise information when asked about your resume. Rewriting your resume's career history for a specific role can be confusing. For example, you may describe a previous position that isn't even listed on your resume for a different role. Examine your resume to ensure that you have the relevant work history. It appears that you are lying if your work history is incorrect. Make sure it's correct in terms of the position. Bring a couple of additional copies of your resume in case you are interviewed by more than one person and need to refer to it.

6. Arriving Late

Arriving late creates an unfavorable first impression. If you arrive late, the interviewer will assume that you will be late for work. Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early. Leaving your house early increases your chances of having an accident on the road. If you are even a minute late, some interviewers will decline to interview you. If the interviewer calls you after you've been late, explain why you've been late. Being late shows a lack of regard for the interviewer, who will assume you don't value their time.

7. Unprofessional

It is impolite and unethical to chew gum or eat during an interview. Although it may appear to alleviate anxiety, it is not a nice appearance, and no one wants to hear you smack. Don't be harsh or use inappropriate words when questioned about a previous company or manager.

If you can criticize former employers, it should be no problem to criticize a potential future employer if you leave on bad terms. It would be awkward to learn that the person or company you're criticizing is related to the interviewer or organization. Working well with others in any situation demonstrates a willingness to get the task done.

8. Talking too much

You never want to ramble on about subjects that have nothing to do with the question. Particularly private matters. If you don't answer the questions, it will appear as if you don't understand them. Understand the difference between boasting and being self-assured. You should attempt to make your responses short and sweet, no more than three minutes. Maintain a professional tone during the interview, regardless of how relaxed it appears to be. Don't go into detail about your life; simply respond to the question.

9. Cell Phone

Turn off your cell phone. The ringing of a cell phone is both impolite and inconvenient. It's incredibly tempting to pick up a vibrating phone. You want the interviewer to know that your phone isn't the most important thing in your life. You are not permitted to answer or make phone calls during the interview, so leave it at home.

10. Poor Listening

Interrupt the interviewer as little as possible. You might miss the question if you're talking. Don't be the person who drifts off during an interview. To stay awake and alert, get enough rest. Your replies are influenced by distractions. They are paying attention, even when you believe they aren't! How can you focus on the job if you can't focus on the interview?
